Traditional furnaces and baseboards burn fuel or run current through high-resistance wires to create heat. The maximum possible thermodynamic efficiency is 100% (1 unit in = 1 unit out).
Heat pumps do not create heat; they use a closed refrigeration cycle to extract heat energy from ambient outdoor air and compress it into your living space, achieving 300% to 400% efficiency (COP 3.0 to 4.0).
